Safe surgery should not depend on what a family can afford.
Madaree Foundation is being built to help patients access life-changing surgery through volunteer specialists, partner hospitals and accountable sponsor support.
There are patients waiting for operations that could change the rest of their lives.
Some patients need cleft surgery. Some need sight restored. Some need burn contractures released so they can move, work, learn or live with dignity again.
Many of these patients do not need a complicated new invention. They need access: the right specialist, a safe theatre, the correct consumables, transport, screening, consent, follow-up and someone to coordinate the process properly.
Madaree Foundation brings those pieces together.
“We bring patients, surgeons, hospitals and sponsors into one coordinated system — so donated skill and donated resources can become safe surgery.”
Foundation principle
How the foundation works.
Like the strongest surgical charities, the model is simple to understand and serious to operate.
Patients are identified
Patients may come through hospital referrals, community partners, medical professionals, family members or online enquiries.
Cases are screened
Every enquiry is reviewed for need, clinical suitability, documentation, consent, safety and follow-up requirements.
Medical specialists review
Each surgical discipline is guided by senior medical leadership so the right patients are matched with the right surgical team.
A mission is planned
Volunteer teams, partner hospitals, equipment, consumables, theatre time and patient logistics are coordinated for a mission day or weekend.
Care continues afterwards
Patients are followed up, outcomes are recorded, and sponsors receive transparent reporting on what their support made possible.
Three high-impact programmes to begin.
The foundation should start with disciplines where the need is visible, the impact is clear, and the medical network can be built safely.
Cleft surgery
Cleft lip, palate and related care for children and adults who need access to safe surgical treatment.
Learn about cleft surgery →Cataract & eye surgery
Restoring sight and supporting patients whose ability to learn, work or live independently is affected by treatable eye conditions.
Learn about eye surgery →Burn reconstruction
Helping patients affected by burn scarring and contractures regain movement, function and dignity.
Learn about burn reconstruction →Trust is built through medical standards, governance, financial transparency and careful patient protection.
Madaree Foundation must be credible from day one.
A foundation built around dignity, safety and accountability.
Patients and families must know that their information, photographs, medical records and stories are handled with care. Sponsors must know how funds are used. Volunteer doctors must know the standard of care is protected.
That is why the foundation is designed around proper screening, senior medical oversight, POPIA-aware systems, transparent reporting and clear governance.
The principles behind every mission.
Safety
Clinical decisions must be led by qualified, credentialed medical professionals.
Dignity
Patients are treated as people first, with privacy, consent and respect.
Access
The focus is on patients who cannot realistically access timely private care.
Transparency
Funding, outcomes and governance must be clear to sponsors and the public.
