Cataract & eye surgery
Restoring sight and independence through planned ophthalmology missions.
Care that changes more than a diagnosis.
This programme is designed for patients whose surgical need is real, whose access is limited and whose lives can be materially improved through safe, planned surgery.
Patients will be assessed through a structured intake pathway and reviewed by the relevant senior clinical lead before being placed on a mission list.
What this programme must deliver.
Restored independence
Sight can affect mobility, safety, reading, work and family connection.
High-impact procedures
Many eye procedures are short compared with the life impact they create.
Local mission planning
Eye missions can be built around partner hospitals and local screening days.
Sponsors help cover the practical costs behind free care.
Volunteer skill is only one part of a mission. A safe surgical mission may require consumables, lenses or specialist equipment, patient transport, accommodation, theatre support, post-operative care, administration and reporting.
